Effective cop-community relations a must to prevent crime
Agriculture and Water Resources Adviser Dr CS Karim emphasised on friendly community-police relations based on mutual understanding, trust and cooperation to prevent crime.
He said this while addressing as the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony of the Police Open Day and a new service delivery centre at Feni Model Police Station in Feni yesterday.
“Partnerships between police and communities, especially vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, pave the way for voicing grievances, suggestions and recommendations by the people in order to improve policing,” Karim said.
The police station is one of the model police stations under the Police Reform Programme (PRP) of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Service Delivery Centre aims at providing better and community-friendly services to the people.
In cooperation with the Feni police administration, the PRP has organised the inaugural ceremony of the Service Delivery Centre and the Police Open Day.
Later, Dr Karim also laid the foundation stone of the Sonagazi Model Police Station in Sonagazi Upazila.
British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Anwar Choudhury, Additional Inspector General of Police and PRP National Project Director NBK Tripura, PRP Project manager Hubert Staberhofer also spoke on the occasion.
Feni Police Superintendent Harunur Rashid Hazari chaired the function.
During the ceremony, bicycles, torch lights, mobile phones and umbrellas were distributed among the Chawkidars and Dafadars under the police station, said a press release yesterday.
