Five killed, 13 injured in road crashes

Five people were killed and at least 13 others inured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Brahmanbaria, Rajbari and Kishoreganj early Wednesday and yesterday.
Staff correspondent reports: Alam Mollah, 50, a rickshaw-van puller, died instantly after a truck hit his rickshaw from behind at Shajahanpur Amtala in the city yesterday morning.
In another incident, an unknown vehicle ran over an unidentified elderly woman, leaving her dead at Birulia Beribandh near Priyanka Shooting Spot in Pallabi, said police.
Police recovered the body at about 6:30am yesterday.
Our Brahmanbaria correspondent reports: Two people were killed and three others injured as a truck rammed a tempo on Akhaura Land Port road at Kudda village in the sadar upazila on Wednesday night.
The deceased are Salauddin Mia Liton, 35, the tempo driver, and an unidentified woman aged around 35.
Injured Kawser Mia of Chandi village and Ekram Hossain of Chinair village were rushed to Akhaura Upazila Health Complex while Fathema Begum of Noyadil village to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
Our Manikganj correspondent says: A Dhaka-bound bus ran over Sajib Fakir, 12, son of Siraj Fakir of Soruparchalk village of Goalando upazila, on Rajbari-Khulna highway in Jamindar bridge area of the upazila in Rajbari yesterday, killing him on the spot.
Highway police said the accident occurred at around 3:00pm while the boy was crossing the road.
Angry people put up barricades on the highway at around 3:30pm, demanding construction of a speed breaker on the spot.
In Kishoreganj, at least 10 people, including women, were injured as a three-wheeler fell into a ditch beside Tarail-Kendua highway at Kalna in Tarail upazila yesterday.
Of the injured, two were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, while the rest to Karimganj Upazila Health Complex.
