Khulna mayor faints in courtroom
Detained Khulna City Corporation (KCC) mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman yesterday fainted in the dock of a Khulna court after feeling pain in chest.
He was whisked off to the Khulna jail hospital by an ambulance.
The KCC mayor was produced before the Khulna District and Sessions Judge's Court in connection with a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
He suddenly felt pain in chest and fainted in the dock at about 12:30pm prompting the judge to stop the hearing of a prosecution witness in the case.
His wife Laila Rahman was also present at the court.
Earlier, Tayebur was brought to Khulna from the Dhaka Central Jail at about 10:00pm on Sunday.
Sub-inspector Golam Rabbani of DB police filed the case with Khulna Police Station against Tayebur on November 4 last year after joint forces seized four bottles of foreign liquor at his Khulna residence.
Besides, another case was filed against the KCC mayor under the Arms Act. Trial of both the cases was deferred twice following medical reports on his physical condition.
Trial of the arms case is scheduled to begin today in another court.
