Try war criminals, release Hasina
About 460 freedom fighters (FFs) of Rajshahi, in a memorandum submitted yesterday to the chief advisor (CA) of caretaker government, demanded trial and punishment of war criminals by forming special tribunals.
They handed over the memorandum through the deputy commissioner (DC) of Rajshahi.
In the memorandum, the freedom fighters also demanded immediate and unconditional release of Awami League (AL) chief Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehena.
Demanding withdrawal of all cases against them, they said the daughters of Bangabandhu fell victims of a conspiracy. Both of them were implicated in extortion and corruption cases simply to dishonour the daughters of Bangabandhu, they said. The people of Bangladesh believe that a politician of a stature like Sheikh Hasina cannot do any corrupt practice, they said. The freedom fighters who took part in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 also believe that it is a conspiracy to keep the leader in jail, they said. Earlier, Pakistani rulers also tried in vain to portray Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a corrupt leader, they said. They urged the government to stop hatching conspiracy against the AL chief.
Signatories to the memorandum are Muktijoddha Sangsad city coordinator Malek Chowdhury, city commander Shafiqur Rahman Raza, former commander Abdus Sattar, Alauddin Sheikh Bulu, freedom fighters Altaf Hossain, Aminul Islam, Hassan Ali Minu, Mosharaff Hossain, Farhad Ali, Rabindra Nath Shaha, Abul Kalam Azad and Advocate Monirul Islam.
