Ensure fundamental rights: Hasina
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the actual definition of human rights is to ensure all the fundamental rights of the people as well as establishment of peace in society and the present government is relentlessly working to this end.
She made the remark when a delegation of Bangladesh Manobadhikar Council met her at her office yesterday.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said the PM has called upon the members of the delegation to help the poor and distressed people in getting legal assistance from the government.
Hasina advised the council members to help get release for the hapless, poor prisoners especially the female prisoners, who are passing their days in jail without any specific charges.
Thanking the army for foiling the recent bid to topple the elected government, she said the armed forces' members and their families usually become the worst victims of any such incidents.
Hasina put emphasis on presenting the real history of liberation war and war criminals to the youths.
She appreciated the role of the council members in resolving family conflicts and land disputes.
The council Chairman Abdur Rahim Khan, Secretary General Dr Farid, former MP Shahidul Islam Khan and Kazi Mozammel Haq were present among others.
