Mob beat robber dead in Barisal

A robber was beaten to death by a mob at Kuniakandi village under Gournadi upazila of the Barisal district early yesterday.
The dead was identified as Sabuj, 26, of Kalkini upazila in Madaripur district, police said.
Asim Kumar Shikdar, sub-inspector of Gournadi Police Station, said a gang of armed robbers entered the houses of Saudi expatriates Mizanur and Kuddus by breaking window grills at around 2:45am.
They stabbed Rizia Begum, Kakoli Begum, Sharmin Begum, Nurjahan Begum and Sohag Sheik and looted cash and other valuables worth Tk 13 lakh from the houses.
As members of the two houses cried for help, neighbours chased the robbers caught one of the gang members named Sabuj while the rest managed to flee.
The angry villagers beat up Sabuj mercilessly, resulting in his death on the spot. On information, police rushed to the scene, recovered the body and sent it to Barisal Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Of the injured, Nurjahan was admitted to the upazila health complex while the rest were given first aid, the SI added.
