Masked gunmen kill one, abduct 3 in Khagrachhari
A villager was shot dead by unknown criminals in Khagrachhari Sadar upazila Friday night.
The dead was identified as Sudhiraj Chandra Chakma, 60, of Natunpara village under Kamalchhari union.
Police recovered the body from the village at around 6:30am yesterday and sent it to Khagrachhari Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The gang also abducted three people from the village. They are Samayan Chakma, 40, Tungachan Chakma, 25, and Charuti Ranjan Chakma, 35.
Police quoted locals as saying that a gang of 10 to 12 masked criminals entered the village around 11:30pm and picked up Sudhiraj, Samayan, Tungachan and Charuti from their houses at gunpoint.
At one stage of argument with Sudhiraj, the gang shot him dead and took away the remaining three, police said.
Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said law enforcers have already launched a drive to rescue the three villagers and arrest the gang members.
The OC quoting locals said the incident might have taken place due to a feud between the gang and the villagers over a recently held arbitration at the village.
