Rajshahi electricity office under siege

Rajshahi unit of National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports yesterday laid siege to Rajshahi Regional Electricity Office Bhaban in the city demanding protection of the country's natural resources.
Addressing a rally before the office in the city's Hetemkha area, the committee leaders urged the government to cancel the deal signed with ConocoPhillips over deep-sea exploration for gas as it ignored national interest.
The committee's Rajshahi unit Convener Abul Kalam Azad, National Awami Party district unit Secretary Mostafizur Rahman Khan Alam, Bangladesh Workers Party city unit leader Debashish Pramanick Debu and Murad Morshed addressed the programme.
