HC summons school principal

The High Court yesterday summoned the principal of Monipur High School and College, Sheorapara branch, officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station and two others for allegedly torturing an autistic child in the school.
An HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim issued a suo moto rule following a report with headline "Such Cruelty on an Autistic Child" in the daily Prothom Alo on January 9.
The report stated that security guards confined and beat up a 12-year-old autistic boy in the Sheorapara branch of Monipur High School and College on the night of January 7.
The boy, Mainuddin Sharif, is a student of Disability Foundation School at Mirpur section-14, as per the report.
Sharif's father Jasim Uddin tried to file a case with Kafrul Police Station on January 8, but the police refused to take the case. The police, however, lodged a general diary in this connection.
In the rule issued by the HC, Forhad Hossain, the principal of the institution, OC Ataur Rahman, and Helal Uddin and Anwar, security guards of the institution, were asked to appear before it on January 19 to explain their conduct.
Deputy Attorney General ABM Altaf Hossain placed the report to draw the attention of the judges.
