MSC to bank on Emeka?
Mohammedan SC are apparently banking on their coach Emeka Euzegio and his Nigerian collection of booters for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League even after a sorry campaign in the Grameenphone Federation Cup where they failed to cross the group stage.
The Black and Whites finished fourth among four teams with just a draw against a Bangladesh Championship League side Cox's City FC and suffered 10-0 and 6-0 defeats against Premier League sides Muktijoddha Sangsad and Team BJMC respectively.
There were whispers that Emeka might get the axe for this poor performance. However, the club's director-in-charge Lokman Hossain Bhuyan dismissed any possibility of such action.
“The club will keep those people whom it needs,” said Bhuyan yesterday adding that three to four foreign players may leave the club before the start of the league.
“The team can perform badly in a tournament which doesn't mean that they will continue to perform baldy in the future,” Lokman said.
There are lots of questions asked about the standard of foreign players but Lokman said, “I watched their performance in practice and it was pretty good. However, they could not replicate that performance in the competition.”
Lokman however said that the club officials would travel overseas to scout for quality foreign players in the mid-season players' transfer.
Mohammedan came into the players' transfer scene after Abahani, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Sheikh Russel had already scooped up the prized possessions, leaving themselves to be content with mediocre local players and a few unknown foreigners.
Realising the situation, Sayeed Hasan Kanon, chairman of the technical committee, said it was not reasonable to expect to qualify for the quarterfinals with such a weak team.
“We can't take any emotional decision regarding the coach and the players. Actually we have no option but to rely on them,” said Kanon.
