Akhaura land port closed for 5 days
Export-import through Akhaura Land Port came to a halt for five days from yesterday.
Port activities will remain suspended until January 11 on the occasion of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to Agartala while on January 12 for by-election to Akhaura municipality, said Subash Chandra Kundu, customs officer of the land port.
Loading and unloading of goods will remain halted on January 13 due to weekly holiday. However, Bangladeshi and Indian passport holders are allowed to cross the border, the customs officer said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be in Tripura on January 11 to receive an honorary Doctorate of Literature degree from Tripura University. Besides attending the convocation on January 12, the premier will attend a civic reception and meet the political leaders as well as businessmen.
The visit will be the first of its kind by any prime minister of Bangladesh to
Tripura, which had played a key role during the Liberation War in 1971.
