Call for speedy war crimes trial

Rajshahi City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton yesterday demanded a speedy trial of those who committed crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971.
He said the trial of war criminals was necessary to mitigate the sufferings of hundreds of people who were still in agony after losing their near and dear ones.
The war criminals managed saving their skins for years and gave birth to terrorism in the country, he added.
He further said the country had to witness terrorism as well as militancy because the war crimes trial commenced after such a long period.
The mayor was addressing a rally organised by the district and city units of Awami League (AL)-led grand alliance at Shaheb Bazar zero point.
Alliance activists also organised a rally at around 5:00pm demanding a speedy trial of the war criminals.
Started from the city AL office at Kumarpara, the rally, led by the city mayor, paraded through Sona Dighir square, Bhuban Mohan Park and Ganakpara.
