4 killed in bus plunge
At least four people were killed and another 30 injured when a bus plunged into a pond along Ashuganj-Nayanpur road in Kasba upazila yesterday evening.
Three of the deceased were identified as Haris Mia, 20, Shahin Mia, 12, and Akram Hossain, 16. The unidentified one was a youth aged about 20. All the deceased hailed from Kasba upazila.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred around 5:10pm, when the driver of a overloaded passenger bus of 'Diganta Paribahan' lost its control over the steering after one of the front wheels of the bus became unscrewed and fell into the roadside pond at Shahapur village, leaving the four dead on the spot and injuring 30 others.
The driver and helper fled the spot.
Of the injured, 10 people were admitted to Kasba Upazila Health Complex, while the rest were referred to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital and Comilla Modern Hospital.
The bodies were sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Gazi Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kasba Police Station, said a unit of Fire Brigade along with police are trying to salvage the bus till filing this report last night.
A case was filed in this connection with the police station.
