Khulna AL slates BNP leader's remarks, holds JCD, Shibir responsible
Khulna district and city Awami League leaders have strongly condemned the remarks made by city BNP President and lawmaker Nazrul Islam Manju at a press conference on Wednesday about Monday's violence at Kuet.
In a press statement yesterday, the AL leaders said Nazurl Islam Manju had incited Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal cadres to Monday's violence on Kuet campus.
They said Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir activists were involved in attacking Chhatra League activists and went on the rampage at the time of annual feast on Sunday night in the dining room.
Apart from Sunday night's incident, Chhatra Dal and Shibir cadres with the help of outsiders attacked general students on the campus on Sunday night and Monday.
They attacked official residence of the vice chancellor and also looted valuables from there, the AL League leaders said in the press statement.
Awami League does not believe in politics of terrorism and politicisation of any academic institution. Rather, the party believes that a right man should be placed in the right place, they said.
The signatories to the statement are State minister for Labour Begum Mannujan Sufian, City Mayor and President of Khulna City Awami League Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Administrator of Khulna Zila Parishad and President of Khulna District Awami League Sheikh Harun-ar-Rashid, General Secretary of AL district unit Mostafa Rashidi Shuja and General Secretary of AL city committee Mizanur Rahman.
