Nrityacharya Bulbul Chowdhury Fair 2012 Held

Marking the 93rd birth anniversary (January 1) of noted Nrityaguru Bulbul Chowdhury, a day long fair titled "Nrityacharya Bulbul Chowdhury Fair 2012" was held at the open stage of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). Bangladesh Nrityashilpi Sangstha(BNS) together with BSA arranged the fair.
The fair commenced with a seminar titled "Nrityangoney Nrityacharya Bulbul Chowdhury" at the Seminar Room of National Theatre Hall of BSA. President of BNS and noted dancer Laila Hasan read out the essay on Bulbul Chowdhury while Professor Rafiqul Islam, cultural personalities Kamal Lohani and Shamsuzzaman Khan spoke at the seminar. Director General of BSA Liakat Ali Lucky presided over the seminar.
The second session of the programme was held at the open stage of BSA. Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry Suraiya Begum (ndc) was a guest of honour at the event. General secretary of BNS Deepa Khandakar, dancers Golam Mostafa Khan and Kabirul Islam Ratan spoke on the occasion. Laila Hasan presided over the session.
This year the organisers conferred Bulbul Chowdhury award on eminent cultural personality Kamal Lohani. Members of BNS demanded the construction of the Bulbul Mancha to the north of the open premises of BSA. They also demanded the launch of a Bulbul Archive at BSA.
Later, artistes from a number of dance troupes including Nataraj, Benuka, Dibya, Nrityalok, Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts, Sukanya, Pallabi and Spondon performed dances at the fair. Differently abled dance artistes along with three transvestite artistes also presented dances at the event.
