Deposition recording deferred for second time
A Chittagong court, for the second time, yesterday deferred the recording of a witness' deposition in connection with an arson attack in Banshkhali on November 18, 2003, leaving 11 members of a minority family dead.
Prosecution lawyer and Chittagong District Public Prosecutor Abul Hashem said the date was deferred as an accused could not be produced before the court from jail.
January 22 was fixed as the new date by the court of 3rd Additional District and Sessions Judge (acting) Syeda Hosne Ara Begum.
The first date for the recording, October 17, 2011, was deferred following a time petition by prosecution lawyers, said sources.
The arson attack on Tejendra Shil's house left a lone survivor, Tejendra's son Dr Bimal Shil, who filed a case a day after the incident accusing 30 to 35 unidentified people of committing the crime.
On September 12, 2011 a Chittagong court framed charges against 38 people including BNP leader Aminur Rahman Chowdhury.
There had been allegations that the then BNP-led government influenced the probe into the case.
