Prothom Alo editor gets bail

The High Court yesterday granted bail to Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman for two months in a defamation case filed in Khulna.
The HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order of bail after disposing of a petition filed by Matiur Rahman seeking bail in the case. The Prothom Alo editor appeared before the bench for bail yesterday.
Deputy Attorney General Khondker Diliruzzaman told reporters that one Mizanur Rahman Mizan of Khulna had filed the defamation suit with the court of chief judicial magistrate of the district against the Prothom Alo editor and its reporter Iftekhar Mahmud after the daily published a report headlined, “Khuner Parikalpanay Khulna Awami League Er Char Neta! (Four Khulna Awami League leaders behind the murder plan!) on October 6 last year.
He also said that Matiur Rahman filed the bail petition on December 31 last year in connection with case, and Iftekhar Mahmud, another accused in the case, earlier got bail from the trial court.
