One killed, 35 hurt as rival groups clash in Narail, Madaripur
One person was killed and at least 35 others were injured as rival groups clash in Narail and Madaripur districts yesterday.
In Narail, two rival groups of villagers clashed at Charkorfa village under Lohagara upazila yesterday morning, leaving a man killed and at least 15 others injured.
The deceased was identified as Moshiar Munshi, 35, son of Mofazzal Munshi of the village. At least 16 houses were vandalised and 15 cattle looted during the clash.
Locals said there was a longstanding rivalry between Kamal Munshi and Rasul Sikdar over establishing supremacy at the village.
At around 7:00am, the two groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, killing Moshiar Munshi, supporter of Kamal Munshi, on the spot and injuring 15 others from both sides.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot, dispersed the clashing groups and brought the situation under control.
Of the injured, Jahangir Sikder, Mofazzal Munshi, Jewel Sarder, Sobhan Sikder, Imrul Sheikh, Sohrab Hossain were admitted to Lohagara Health Complex while the rest to Khulna Medical College and Hospital and Noapara Health Complex.
The body of Moshiar was sent to Narail Sadar Hospital for autopsy. No case was lodged with the police station concerned as of 5:00pm yesterday.
Contacted, Md Abdur Rokib Khan, officer-in-charge of Lohagara Police Station, said police have been deployed at the village to avert any further clash.
Our Madaripur correspondent reported that At least 20 people, including three policemen, were injured during a clash between two rival groups in Rajoir Sadar upazila of the district yesterday.
The injured policemen are Sub-Inspector Alamgir Hossain, Nayek Babul Akhter, 33, and constable Asad Hossain, 30. The injured are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the upazila. Later, critically injured Nayek Babul Akhter was referred to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.
Police and locals said the clash was a sequel to an attack on local Jatiyatabadi Chhattra Dal leader Jahidul Islam Hiron on Saturday. Hiron was stabbed by his rivals in the JCD upazila unit.
Nawsher Ali, officer-in-charge of Rajoir Police Station said law enforcers had to fire 15 blank shots to disperse the clashing groups. Additional police have been deployed in the area, he added.
