Kibria Chhapchitro Mela opens at Dhaka Art Centre
To mark the 83rd birth anniversary of Mohammad Kibria, Dhaka Art Centre (DAC) has organised a three day printmaking festival titled “Kibria Chhapchitro Mela” at Dhanmondi.
Anjum Kibria, widow of Mohammad Kibria inaugurated the festival on January 1. Monirul Islam was present as special guest on the occasion and Rafiqun Nabi presided over the inaugural session. The fair ends tomorrow.
The participating institutions are---- Printmaking Department, Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), University of Dhaka; Printmaking Department, Institute of Fine Arts, Chittagong University; Printmaking Group, Fine Arts Department, Rajshahi University; Printmaking Studio, Fine Arts Department, University of Alternative Development (UODA); Atelier '71, Cosmos Atelier '71, Shunno Art Space, Dhaka; Bornika Print Studio, Dhaka; Bangladesh Printmakers Association, Porapara Space for Artists, Chittagong and Kibria Printmaking Studio, Dhaka Art Centre.
On the occasion of the festival, DAC held a press conference on December 31 at the Centre's Seminar Room. Artist Abul Barq Alvi, professor of Printmaking Department, FFA, University of Dhaka; artist Nisar Hossain, Professor of Drawing and Painting Department, University of Dhaka; art critic Moinuddin Khaled and Rashid Amin, coordinator of the festival, spoke at the programme.
The speakers asserted that the medium of printmaking is challenging and exciting. It gives an opportunity for rethinking, re-examination and reworking. The festival's main aim is to popularise the medium among art aficionados and enthusiasts of the country. The fair provides middle class and lower middle class buyers an opportunity to purchase a print at a low or minimal cost. The speakers remembered Mohammad Kibria and Safiuddin Ahmed's immense contributions to the field.
