Withdrawal of embargo on plying rickshaw demanded
Thousands of rickshaw-pullers yesterday formed a human chain in the port city to press home their eight-point demand, including withdrawal of the embargo on plying rickshaw from Barik Building to Bahaddarhat intersection from January 1, 2012, until making separate lanes for rickshaws.
Chittagong Metropolitan Rickshaw Driver-Owner Coordination Action Council organised the human chain programme from Tigerpass to Bahadderhat area at around 11:00am.
Later, they brought out a procession with their rickshaws and arranged a rally at Sholo Shahar.
The council's Adviser Nazrul Islam, President MA Quader and General Secretary Mostafa Kamal, Sramik Dal Chittagong Divisional President MA Nazim, Sramik League leaders Safar Ali and Safi Bangali were present at the human chain programme.
Earlier on November 28, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) imposed the embargo in the areas.
