Cops obstruct BNP processions in 2 dists
BNP lawmaker Mozahar Ali Prodhan, also president of Joypurhat district unit of the party, was hospitalised as he fell to the ground during a chase and counter chase between party activists and law enforcers yesterday.
The chaos erupted when BNP leaders and activists led by Mozahar Ali brought out a procession at around 11:00am as part of their national programme yesterday.
As the procession reached Pachurmore in Joypurhat municipality, police intercepted.
A wrangle between the activists and police led to a chase and counter chase in the area. Shortly afterwards, the lawmaker fell to the ground and his fellows took him to Joypurhat Modern Hospital.
The activists again reunited and brought a procession in Joypurhat town and held a rally in front of their party office at Joypurhat rail gate.
Golzar Hossain, general secretary of the town unit BNP, and Obaidur Rahman Sweet, general secretary of Jubo Dal, alleged that the lawmaker was injured due to police action.
Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, officer in charge of Joypurhat police station, on the other hand, said the lawmaker was hospitalised as his blood pressure went up during the chase and counter chase in Pachurmore area.
Meanwhile, police cordoned BNP office at Jailmore in Dinajpur town, keeping leaders and activists confined there. Later the party men held a rally in front of the office but they could not bring out any procession due to interference by police.
