Resist those who disrespect constitution: Shafique
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed yesterday called upon the people to resist those who comment disrespectfully about the country's constitution.
He said no one was above law. So everybody should abide by the law and respect it, he added.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the foundation laying ceremony of 'A K Khan Law Faculty Building' at Chittagong University (CU) with Vice Chancellor Prof Md Anwarul Azim Arif in the chair.
Prof Atful Hai Shibli, member of University Grants Commission (UGC); Pro-VC Prof Mohammad Alauddin; Prof M Shah Alam, acting chairman of Bangladesh Law Commission; A K Shamsuddin Khan, chairman of A K Khan Foundation; and Salahuddin Kashem Kahn, trustee secretary of the foundation, spoke at the function where Prof Md Zakir Hossain, dean of Law faculty, delivered the welcome speech.
Shafique urged the CU students to read the country's constitution very well as it is the supreme law of the state.
The present government was laying emphasis on education sector, he said adding that the government activities in education sector would get more momentum if affluent people, businessmen and industrialists came forward with their helping hands like the owner of A K Khan Foundation.
A K Khan Law Faculty Building will be constructed at a cost of Tk 17 crore funded by the foundation.
