Ctg Bijoy Mela to start on Dec 10
Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela, the port city's popular victory fair, will begin from December 10.
Calling out to the country's patriotic people to unite against the war criminals, the fair committee will hold the 15-day long fair with the slogan 'Victory of the Liberation War is the pride of the heroic Bangla nation'.
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Capt (Retd) AB Tajul Islam will inaugurate the fair as the chief guest, said the fair organisers at a press briefing in Chittagong Press Club yesterday.
The fair, which has stepped into its 23rd year this year, was first held in 1989 at the outer Stadium.
Awami League city unit President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, also the fair committee's chairman, said the fair will be arranged in 14 upazilas of Chittagong this year.
He urged all to resist those who arrange gambling and others obscene events at the fair.
A 'Bijoy Mancha', large stage, will be set up at the fair where national leaders, freedom fighters, litterateurs and educationists, among others, will reminisce and share their memories from the year 1971, said the organisers.
Drama, cultural programme and poetry recitation by the country's renowned artists will be staged at the fair everyday.
The committee Secretary General Badiul Alam and Co-Chairman Md Shahabuddin, Nap city unit President Abul Momen Bhuyan and its General Secretary Ali Ahmed Najir, AL city unit Vice-President Naimuddin Ahmed, Workers Party city unit Secretary Advocate Abu Hanif and JSD city unit General Secretary Jasimuddin Babul were present at the conference.
