Foreigners try out for Brothers

Brothers Union started their foreign players' trial yesterday at their club ground with seventeen booters from seven countries taking part on the first day.
It is the second time that the Gopibagh-based outfit took such an initiative in a bid to search for the appropriate players for the upcoming season.
Brothers had also arranged such a trial of foreign players last season and picked up four from over 40 players. This time, players from Cameroon, Brazil, Nigeria, Congo, Togo, Senegal and Ghana are taking part in the tryout.
Under the supervision of new coach Syed Naeem-uddin, 17 foreigners as well as five local players split into two group played a match and the Indian coach, who arrived in Dhaka on Thursday, liked five players. Senegalese Habib Duke, Nigerian Samson Shamsuddin, Brazilian Jenilson, Ghanaian Abdur Razzak and Cameroonian Gerrard caught his eye but Naeemuddin wants to see them more in practice matches.
“It is good opportunity to see a lot of foreign players before picking some of them,” said Naeemuddin who coached Brothers Union to win the Premier League in 2004 and guided the same outfit to finish fifth in the inaugural professional league in 2007.
The former Indian and Bangladesh coach wants to give them more opportunities on the pitch as most of the players played under pressure to prove themselves on the first day.
Brothers Union have yet to turn up to sign up the local and foreign players in the ongoing players' transfer that will end on December 30 and it is almost confirmed that they would have to form a mediocre side this season too.
“Coaching a club is always a challenging job and I believe if the players work hard and keep faith, then it is possible to do better result,” the man who coached Kolkata Mohammedan in the I-League last season told the reporters.
Brothers Union manager Amer Khan said that some eight to ten foreign booters might join the camp that would be prolonged for seven more days.
