'Let me live normal life'
Limon Hossain, the 16-year-old college student maimed by Rab shooting, yesterday demanded withdrawal of the two cases against him to resume a normal life.
He made the plea while talking to journalists after appearing before Jhalakathi Senior Judicial Magistrate's court to face a charge of obstructing Rab personnel in carrying out their duties.
"I will have to appear in the court regularly if the cases are not dropped…. I appeal to the government to scrap the cases so I can lead a normal life," said Limon.
Accepting his appearance, the court fixed the next date of charge hearing on January 16 next year, according to Limon's counsel Nashimul Hasan.
The charge hearing in the other case under arms act will begin in the same court on Monday, mentioned the lawyer.
Rapid Action Battalion filed the cases, which are still under investigation.
A Rab team reportedly picked up Limon from near his house at Jamaddarhat in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi on March 23 and shot in his left leg.
He used to work in a brick kiln to bear his educational expenses and his higher secondary certificate examinations were less than a fortnight away.
The young boy's left leg was amputated from the thigh on March 27 at National Institute for Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) in Dhaka as the tissues were totally damaged due to excessive bleeding caused by delay in treatment after the shooting incident.
He secured bail from the High Court on May 5.
Five days later, he was freed from Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital prison cell.
