DU strives to build global society

Dhaka University (DU) authorities and South Asia Social Forum Bangladesh, a newly formed body, will jointly organise a five-day long programme with a view to building a global society incorporating equity, independence, cooperation and mutual partnership.
The programme will begin on November 18 and take place in different venues on the DU campus.
Representatives from all South Asian countries will participate in the programme with the theme 'Another world is possible', said DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, briefing reporters at a press conference about the events and it's aim yesterday at university senate building.
According to organisers, the programme will include a rally, seminar, workshop, symposium, cultural function, film show and open discussion.
The programmes will focus on globalisation, democracy, gender, human rights, fundamentalism, peace and conflicts, food security, social safety, mass media, cultural aggression and current movement, they added.
Organisers have prepared to welcome over 10,000 people at the inaugural rally with over 500 organisations participating in the event.
Representatives of countries in South Asia, the US, Europe, Africa and Latin America will also join the programme.
Convener of programme core committee and Dean of pharmacy faculty Prof Dr ABM Faruque, Justice Ghulam Rabbani, PKSF Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad and Rokeya Hall Provost Prof Dr Nazma Shahin also addressed the press conference.
