Windies A take series in thriller
Bangladesh A lost the two-match four-day series against West Indies A as the home team pulled off an exciting one-wicket victory in the second game at the Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia on Tuesday.
The hosts took the series 1-0 after the first game ended in a draw.
Resuming the day on 139 for three, the second string West Indies side crawled to a one-wicket victory thanks to their last pair of Sunil Narine and Nelon Pascal, who denied the visitors associating for the match-winning 17-run stand.
West Indies A were in a good position when overnight batsmen Danza Hyatt and Jonathan Carter were going strong in an 83-run stand that had taken them to 156 for 3 in their chase of 214, but pacer Robiul Islam and left-arm spinner Sohrawardi Shuvo brought Bangladesh back into the match striking twice each in quick succession..
Hyatt was caught behind to Shuvo for 62 while Carter was trapped in front by Robiul for 55. Devon Thomas and Andre Russell returned to the pavilion soon as West Indies A were reduced to 175 for 7. Narine kept West Indies afloat but Sohag Gazi struck at the other end to reduce them to 200 for 9.
Requiring 14 to win, last batsman Pascal hit a six and a four to take West Indies to victory with Narine unbeaten on 26.
Shuvo finished with 4 for 84 and Robiul claimed 3 for 63.
The sides will play twoTwenty20 and three one-day matches with the first T20 game on November 18 in St. Lucia.
