Dyeing factory, 39 shops gutted in fire incidents
A dyeing factory and at least 39 shops were gutted in Ga-zipur, Laxmipur, Rangpur and Sylhet districts in the last three days since Saturday.
Fire gutted a dyeing factory and 10 adjoining shops in Mouchak area of Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur early yester-day, reports UNB.
Fire service sources said a leak in gas pipeline at US Yarn Dyeing Factory caught fire which soon engulfed the adja-cent 10 shops at around 4am.
Two fire fighting units from Kaliakoir and Savar rushed to the spot and doused the flame after three hours of hec-tic efforts.
The affected factory and shop owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 1.5 crore.
In Laxmipur, at least 13 shops were gutted in a fire at Chourasta Bazaar in Sadar upazila early Sunday.
Local people said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop late at night and soon spread to the adjacent 12 other shops.
On information, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames with the help of local people after one hour of frantic efforts.
The affected shops owners claimed that cash and valu-ables worth Tk one crore were gutted in the blaze.
A report from Sylhet adds: At least 12 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Kamal Bazaar in Dakkhin Surma upazila on Saturday evening.
Local people said the fire broke out at a shop at about 7pm and soon engulfed the adjacent 11 other shops.
The affected shops owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 10 lakh.
According to our correspondent in Rangpur, four shops were gutted on Sunday at Hospital Road of Badarganj upazila in the district.
Locals said that the fire originated at Habib cook-eries and spread to the adjacent Sakai TV Ghar and two other shops.
Owners of the shops claimed that the damage caused by the fire would be around Tk. 10 lakh.
In Lalmonirhat, a room and a house cum office room of Jongra union parishad chairman at Jongra village under Patgram upazila was gutted in a fire at dawn yesterday.
According to UP chairman Mahbubunnobi Shaheen the fire destroyed furniture, wooden roofs, windows and doors of two rooms worth about Tk 3 lakh, reports our correspondent.
