War criminals being made to look good: Muhith

Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday said some quarters were trying to make the identified war criminals look innocent and the masses should be made aware of such attempts.
He said this at a meeting with a delegation of Sector Commanders Forum (SCF) led by Planning Minister AK Khandker at his secretariat office.
These sinister attempts were being noticed at a time when the trial of those charged with crimes against humanity was about to begin, he added.
Asked when the trial would end, Muhith said it was not possible to give an exact date.
It may even take 40 years, he said, adding that there were examples in other countries to show trial of the perpetrators of such crimes took a long time.
SCF has called a grand rally in Dhaka on December 3 to create mass awareness through projecting documents and evidence against the war criminals, he added.
Khandker said an initiative had been taken to invite eminent persons from the US, the UK and other European countries, who supported the cause of Bangladesh's independence in 1971, to attend the national rally in December.
