EC not independent: MK Anwar

The Narayanganj City Corporation poll has proven that the Election Commission cannot work independently under a political government, claimed MK Anwar, BNP standing committee member, at a roundtable yesterday.
“After the government violated the constitution by not deploying the army, the Election Commission should have postponed the election or stepped down,” he said, adding that the EC did not do that as it is part of a government plot.
“So, we will not take part in the national election without a caretaker government,” Anwar said.
Sushil Forum organised the roundtable styled 'Neutrality and Transparency in Trial of Crimes Against Humanity: Context of Bangladesh' at Dhaka Reporters' Unity.
