Long live the King of Bollywood

Shahrukh turns 46

Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan turned 46 yesterday and says he wants to celebrate the day with proper sleep.
Like every year, his fans gathered outside his bungalow in Mumbai's suburb Bandra to catch a glimpse of the hugely popular actor, which he said made him emotional.
“Was so touched when I reached home from...sooo many people waiting outside the house and sang happy birthday for me. Had tears in my eyes. Going to sleep now...this birthday will celebrate with a well deserved many hours of sleep...thanx for ur wishes. Don't feel older or wiser..,” Shahrukh wrote on micro blogging site Twitter.
Perhaps he badly needed the sleep as he returned home from a function in the northern Indian city of Chandigarh last night and had been busy in promoting his latest flick “Ra.One” which fulfilled his dream of playing the role of a superhero.
Having begun his career with the television serial “Fauji”, Shahrukh's rise to fame has been “nothing short of a fairytale.”
The 'Badshah of Bollywood' or 'King Khan', as Shah Rukh is endearingly called, has played a range of characters and even dared to play negative characters pretty early on in his career in films like “Baazigar” and “Darr”.
However, it is as a romantic hero that had set the box-office on fire with hits like “Dilwale Dulhaniya le Jayenge”, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, “Yes Boss” and “Dil To Pagal Hai”. Some other films that reinforced this image included “Mohabbatein”, “Kal Ho Naa Ho”, “Pardes”, “Veer Zara” and “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi”, among others.
Shahrukh has also essayed more meaningful roles in films like “Swades”, “Chak De India” and “Paheli”.
This year, Shahrukh hosted “Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout” a reality game show, based on the popular American television show “Wipeout”. In 2007, he had also hosted the third series of the popular television show “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. He also hosted “Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?” in 2008.
The bruises of a busy Bollywood actor's life did not spare Shahrukh. This year, Shahrukh hurt his knee for the third time while shooting for “Ra.One”. The actor suffered a knee injury, due to which he was unable to perform at India International Film Awards function in Toronto.
After “Ra.One” which released during Diwali festival this year, Shahrukh's next movie is “Don 2: The Chase Continues”, which is directed by Farhan Akhtar and is scheduled for release on December 23.
Given his huge fan following and a long-sustained status of the most bankable star in Bollywood, one can only wish Shahrukh “Many happy returns of the day.”
