40 MT rice looted from Dinajpur mill

Robbers looted a huge quantity of rice and cash taka from a rice mill in Joypurhat district on Friday midnight.
Owner of Aleya Rice Mill Belal Hossain claimed that the armed gang took away cash Tk2.50lakh and 40 tonnes of rice from his mill.
The three-and-half an hour robbery took place at Haltri village, about 3.5km from Joypurhat Sadar police station, police said.
Locals said, a gang numbering 20 to 25, equipped with sharp weapons, came to the rice mill on two trucks at around midnight. At that time, the four staff and mill owner Belal Hossain were asleep.
The robbers first confined the five into a room and beat them up mercilessly. They then tied them with rope and left them in a nearby paddy field.
Later, the gang took away cash Tk 2.5 lakh from a drawer, put 40 tonnes rice on two trucks and left the spot at around 3:30am.
Our Correspondent in Manikganj adds: Robbers looted three houses in the district early Saturday and on Thursday.
Locals said armed robbers numbering 15/20 entered the house of Masud Reza Ansari of Pashchim Dashora in the town breaking open the door at about 2:00am.
They took the members of the house hostage at gunpoint and looted cash and 17 tolas of gold ornaments worth Tk10 lakh.
On the same night, another gang numbering 7/8 stormed into the house of Shamsu Master at Barundi village in Saturia upazila breaking the door open and held the house members hostage at gunpoint.
They looted two tolas of gold ornaments, Tk 25,000 in cash and other valuables from the house and decamped with the booties.
Shamsu Master was stabbed by the robbers as he tried to resist them.
Armed robbers also looted valuables worth Tk13 lakh from the house of an official of Sonali Bank at Bandutia in the municipality area on Thursday.
A gang numbering 8/9 entered the house of Rezaul Ahmed at around 3:00 pm and looted 25 tolas of gold and cash Tk25 thousand at gun point.
The robbers left with the booties after confining the people of the house into the bathroom, Dolly Begum, mother of the bank official said.
