80 MPs have not submitted tax returns
Around 80 lawmakers have not yet submitted their income tax returns to the National Board of Revenue, though the last date for submission expired on October 16.
They have not even sought further time, private television channel ATN Bangla reported yesterday quoting NBR member M A Kader.
The NBR will send letters to the MPs soon to file their tax returns, he added.
However, more than 200 lawmakers including the prime minister and ministers have submitted their tax returns.
Parliament during the last budget session adopted a bill making submission of the income tax return mandatory for ministers, lawmakers, judges, and government officials.
Regarding the judges, Kader said they did not submit tax returns as the High Court stayed the decision for judges following filing of a writ petition.
He mentioned that the NBR will fight the legal battle.
