Arrange treatment for Nizami
The International Crimes Tribunal yesterday directed the jail authorities to take necessary measures concerning medical treatment of detained Jamaat-e-Islami chief Motiur Rahman Nizami.
The three-member tribunal headed by its Chairman Justice Nizamul Huq passed the order following a contempt of court petition filed by Nizami against Altaf Hussain, jail super of Dhaka Central Jail.
In his petition Nizami said the tribunal on April 21 directed the jail authorities to arrange proper treatment for him inside the jail, and, if necessary, allow him to receive treatment at Birdem Hospital, expense paid by him.
But the jail super did not allow him to receive treatment at Birdem hospital as per the order, which amounts to contempt of court, the petition added.
Advocate Tajul Islam appeared for Nizami while Zead-Al Malul represented the prosecution.
Nizami is facing charges for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
