Matador Group fined Tk 5.30 lakh

The department of environment (DoE) yesterday penalised Matador Group with Tk 5.30 lakh for having illegally earth-filled wetland in a channel of the Buriganga river.
The action has taken following a report published in The Daily Star on Wednesday.
DoE officials found that Matador has earth filled 11760-square feet area of the wetland at Kamrangirchar in Hazaribagh to develop a project named Polymer Industries, said the department's director Muhammad Munir Chowdhury.
Owner of the company was summoned at DoE, as he carried earth filling in violation of environment conservation law, said Munir.
