Unit-2 resumes power generation

The power generation of 250 megawatt (MW) Barapukuria Coal-Powered Plant resumed its power generation on Friday night.
The plant shut down on January 21 due to technical glitches at one of the boilers at 125MW Unit-2, the plant sources said.
Chief Engineer Md Abdul Maleque said the second unit of the plant has resumed its power generation at 7.30pm and the plant is now adding at least 220MW to national grid from 9:30pm of Friday night.
The authorities suspended power generation on January 21 to avert any major technical problem when they detected technical glitches at one of the boilers at Unit-2.
On January 16 (Wednesday)
Unit-1 of the plant resumed its power generation on January 16 after suspension of three months and the two units together were generating at least 220MW power until January 20, Power Development Board (PDB) sources said.
The plant now burns 2,500 tonnes of coal a day and produce 2400 to 3000 metric tones. The annual production from the coalmine has been estimated at one million metric tonnes, sources said.
