Delhi can resolve issues with Dhaka: Dy Speaker

Bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India will be strengthened if India intends to resolve the outstanding issues based on equity, said Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali.
“If we give equal importance to each other then the relationship between us will improve,” he told the closing session of a two-day conference tilted “Bangladesh Liberation War and India-Bangladesh Relationship” at Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University yesterday.
Dhaka University, Assam University and Burdwan University jointly organised the conference on the occasion of 40 years of independence of Bangladesh.
Speaking at the conference, Workers Party President and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education Rashed Khan Menon laid emphasise on sharing of Teesta river water and demarcation of maritime boundary.
Expressing gratitude to the people of India for helping Bangladesh in the War of Liberation, Menon said the relations could also be improved through peaceful co-existence and mutual trust.
President of Ekatturer Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir presented a keynote paper titled “Secularism and Struggle for Democracy” where he explained why the state and politics should be kept out of religion.
Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman presided over the closing session while former army chief Lt Gen (retd) Harun-or-Rashid, Prof Dr Tanveer Nasreen of Burdwan University among others addressed it.
