Tareque Masud films screened in Manikganj

Films by Tareque Masud -- “Norsundor' and “Runway” -- were screened at the Central Shahid Minar premises in Manikganj last Tuesday night.
Manikganj District Shangskritk Oikya Parishad organised the event in memory of the late filmmaker and journalist Mishuk Munier who were killed in a tragic road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj on August 13.
Professor and journalist Saifuddin Ahmed; Syed Nazmul Hasan and Al-Jahid recited poems, which they wrote in memory of Tareque and Mishuk.
Artistes of Manikganj District Shangskritk Oikya Parishad rendered the song “Aguner Poroshmoni”.
Around 2,000 people at the programme paid tribute to the two media personalities by observing a one-minute silence.
Prior to the performances, a discussion was held on the stage. Abdus Salam Bulu, freedom fighter and convener of the cultural organisation, presided over the memorial meeting where Morshedul Islam, filmmaker; Munira Morshed Munni, photographer; Kamar Ahmed Simon, assistant director of Masud's unfinished film “Kagojer Phool”; Nahid Masud, younger brother of Tareque Masud, among others, addressed the gathering.
Catherine Masud, widow of Tareque Masud, spoke to the audience over telephone. She said that she would complete “Kagojer Phool”. Tareque Masud, Mishuk Munier and three of their associates were killed on their way back from the shooting spot at Shaljana village under Shibalaya upazila in Manikganj.
At the discussion, the speakers said maximum accidents occur on the highway in absence of a road divider. They urged the authority to build road dividers immediately to reduce road accidents. They demanded road safety and rail line on Dhaka-Paturia road.
They also demanded to install a memorial at the accident cite in memory of the two notable personalities.
