Hearing on quizzing Alim Oct 23

The International Crimes Tribunal yesterday fixed October 23 as the next date for hearing a petition for quizzing former BNP lawmaker Abdul Alim, at a Dhanmondi safe home, in connection with crimes against humanity in 1971.
It also directed the prosecution to bring formal charges against Alim on January 16 next year or submit a progress report on the investigation against him, and extended Alim's bail till that date.
The three-member panel led by Justice Nizamul Huq set the date of the hearing after defence lawyer Tarikul Islam submitted a petition before it seeking adjournment.
Tarikul told the tribunal that they are seeking adjournment as their lead counsel Tajul Islam is now abroad.
The tribunal asked Alim to appear before the court on October 23 as it will hold the hearing in his presence.
On Sunday, the ICT investigators submitted through the prosecution the petition for permission to interrogate Alim.
