Students vow to build society in the spirit of Liberation War
Several thousand students from various schools across the country yesterday vowed to build a society in the spirit of the Liberation War, where all people irrespective of faiths, caste and race would fully enjoy their rights and have access to opportunities for learning and development.
They also vowed not to forget the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country.
The students made the pledges at a programme titled 'Muktir Utsab 2008' or Freedom Festival at Dhaka University playground, organised by the Liberation War Museum under its outreach programme.
At the festival, they also rendered song and performed dance amid much festivity.
The museum has been organising the festival since 1997 with a view to familiarising the younger generation with the history of independence. Under this programme, the students also visited historic places and watched documentaries on the war.
The festival began with the School of Development Alternative students singing the national anthem and hoisting of the national flag.
Liberation War Museum Trustee Dr Sarwar Ali delivered the welcome speech while Air Vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandkar administered the oath to the students. Cultural personality Aly Zaker, architect Rabiul Hussain and Akku Chowdhury also spoke at the inaugural session.
Students of Rajanagar Krishnachandra Public High School of Sunamganj, YWCA Girls' High School and Badda Alatunnesa School and College of Dhaka, Ganauddyog Girls' High School of Comilla and UCEP School took part in the cultural function, while child artistes of Moulovibazar performed Mridanga dance.
Noted singers Ferdous Ara, Mamtaz and Bappa Majumder also performed at the function.
