13 pro-BNP lawyers get anticipatory bail in two criminal cases
High Court yesterday granted anticipatory bail to 13 pro-BNP lawyers for four months in two separate criminal cases filed by two pro-BNP lawyers.
Mahmudul Arefin Swapan filed one of two cases with Dhanmondi Police Station on October 13 alleging that five of the 13 lawyers assaulted him at a restaurant in the city's Dhanmondi and also snatched Tk 50,000.
The accused are Golam Kibria, Aminul Haque and Rafiqul Islam and parliament members Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papia.
The same day, SM Zulfiqure Ali Junu filed an attempt to murder case with Shahbagh Police Station against the remaining eight lawyers.
In the case, he said the accused kicked, slapped and tried to kill him near the office of Bangladesh Bar Council that day as he had filed another case against them earlier.
The accused are Md Jafar Alam, Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, Abdullah al Mahbub, Gazi Touhidul Islam, Shahadat Hossain, SK Tahsin Ali, Ariful Islam alias Arif and Nizamul Islam alias Nizamuddin.
The HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Md Habibul Gani granted them bail after hearing two separate bail petitions filed by the accused.
