Political parties to decide on country's future
Law Adviser AF Hasan Ariff has said political parties will have to decide whether or not to go back to previous anarchic situation.
He said the tenure of the present caretaker government is very short and its main focus is to hold a credible election.
The adviser was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a three- day-long Golden Jubilee Celebration of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) yesterday.
He laid emphasis on coordinated efforts to overcome the shortcomings in different sectors including the health sector.
A video speech of Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus was presented at the ceremony.
In his speech, Dr Yunus said country's majority people are still deprived of the services of quality doctors as it is difficult to get them outside the big cities like Dhaka and Chittagong.
Additional Secretary to health ministry Md Abul Kalam Azad, acting Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) M Manjur Alam and Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Hossain Jamil were present as special guests at the ceremony with CMC Principal Prof Dr MA Wahab in the chair.
Speakers at the inaugural function urged the students and teachers to work with a view to turning the tertiary level institution into a complete medical university.
Presenting different problems of CMC like shortage of manpower, accommodation and equipments they observed that autonomy is needed to make the institution a quality one.
The CMC started its journey in 1957 with only 75 students.
