Radio artistes denounce tax on honorarium

Artists, presenters, dramatists, scriptwriters and guest performers of Bangladesh Betar (radio), Rangpur have denounced the tax (10 percent) on their honorarium.
Under the banner of Betar Shilpi Shartho Shangrakkhan Committee, they held a press conference and urged the Information Minister to repeal the tax. They also demanded raising their honorarium and extending the frequency of Rangpur Radio Station.
M.A Bashar Tipu read out the press note. Mofakharul Islam Mukul, Khademul Hoque Bosunia and Monwara Begum spoke at the press conference.
The cultural activists declared that they would form a human chain at Kacharibazar on October 16 to press home their demands.
The press note said that an artiste gets a meagre payment in the form of honorarium for his/her performance on radio. If 10 percent of that is now deducted, artistes would lose interest in performing for Bangladesh Betar.
