State minister rescues 5 kidnapped men
State Minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarker rescued five people from kidnappers and helped police arrest a Jubo League activist from the district Jubo League office near Hemangini Bridge in the town yesterday.
The arrestee was identified as Rajib, 24, son of Azibor Ali of Bolaripara area of sadar upazila.
The rescued are Abdul Malek of Bagha upazila of Rajshahi; Abdur Rashid, son of Mohir Uddin, Golam Mostafa, son of Abu Moslem, and Abu Raihan Rentu, son of Rekat Ali, of Lalpur upazila; and Shahin, son of Shahid Master of Boraigram upazila of Natore district.
Malek said they were abducted by nine men and taken to the Jubo League office around 2:00pm while they were returning home after attending a Natore court regarding a case.
The men told Malek to withdraw the case he filed against Abdul Jalil and Abdul Karim of Lalpur upazila and demanded Tk 50,000 as ransom.
Ahad, also the acting general secretary of Natore unit Awami League, said he took police to the office as soon as he heard of the kidnapping while returning from a meeting.
Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam of sadar police station said Rajib confessed and said 8 to 9 people, namely Hasu, Sojib, Hira and Bappi, were with him.
