4 get life for throwing acid in Habiganj
A court in Habiganj yesterday sentenced four people to life term imprisonment for throwing acid on a young girl at village Kaitgaon of Bahubal upazila in 2006.
District and Sessions Judge, Habiganj Md. Mahbub ul-Haque also fined each of the convicts Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer one year more in jail. The convicts are Abdul Quaiyum, 26, Haris Miah, 22, Auli Miah, 20, and Alkas Uddin, 35. However, besides Haris, the others are at large.
According the prosecution of the case in brief, failing to satisfy their evil desire, the accused broke into the house of Abdur Rahman and hurled acid on his daughter Mayarunnesa, 18, in the night following 23 February of 2006.
Mayarunnesa's mother Begum Bibi sustained injuries as she tried to save her daughter.She was later treated at Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
Abdur Rahman filed a case with the Habiganj cognizance court accusing the aforesaid four people.
In Netrakona, a man was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment in an arms case on Wednesday.
The convict was identified as Chan Mia, 46, of village Telachi in Durgapur upazila of the district, reports UNB.
According to the prosecution, on secret information, a team of Rab-9 raided the house of Chan Mia and recovered a revolver from his bedroom on May 10 in 2008.
