Robbers looted houses of two expatriates in Sylhet city and Fenchuganj upazila on Tuesday and the day before.
Armed robbers looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables from the house of an expatriate at Uttar Pir Mahalla in Sylhet city on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
Police said a gang numbering 6-7 entered the house of USA expatriate Lutfur Rahman at 7:00pm and looted the valuables worth about Tk 10 lakh taking the house members hostage at gun point.
Hearing hue and cry, locals chased the robbers and caught one of them. He was identified as Ripon, hailing from Comilla.
In Fenchuganj upazila, another gang took away gold ornaments, cash and other valuables from the house of an expatriate at Ashighar Kaligul village early Sunday.
Police quoting locals said a gang of robbers numbering 14/15 entered the house of Qatar expatriate Haji Abdul Kaiyum Chanak Mia.
They looted 27 tolas of gold ornaments, Tk 5.2 lakh in cash and other valuables taking the house members hostage at gun point.
The robbers injured an Imam of a mosque of the village with a sharp weapon while fleeing the scene. He was admitted to Fenchuganj hospital.
