Tanvir Mokammel to speak at Rabindra Bharati University
Director Tanvir Mokammel has never hesitated to take up socio-political issues head on in all his films and it is, therefore, befitting that Rabindra Bharati University of Kolkata has invited him to give a talk on August 26 on “Social Realism in the Recent Cinema of Bangladesh” in the context of his work.
The Department of History and Centre for Bangladesh Studies of Rabindra Bharati University have jointly organised the event that will be attended by the teachers and the students of the University and a good number of intellectuals of Kolkata.
As preparation for the speech, some of Mokammel's films have already been shown by the organisers. They are feature films “Lal Shalu”, “Lalon”, “Chitra Nadir Parey” and documentaries “Shopnobhumi” and “Karnaphulir Kanna”.
Mokammel will reach Kolkata on August 25, and leave for New Delhi on September 1 for final editing of his upcoming mega documentary “1971” on the Liberation War.
In Delhi, the director, along with his editor Mahadeb Shi, will finalise the picture cut of the documentary before releasing the film in November this year, Mokammel told The Daily Star.
