Five rescued 6 hrs after abduction
After six hours of abduction, a joint team of police, army and border guards rescued five staff of state-run mobile phone company Teletalk from the jungle of Khagrachhari yesterday.
The abducted were identified as junior officer of the company Ahsan Hossain Tapu, engineer Rajot Barua, sales representatives Azizul Hoq, Nur Hossain Ridoy and dealer Tareq Hossain Chowdhury.
Khagrachhari Superintendent of Police Abu Kalam Siddiq said a group of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) men ambushed the motorcar of Teletalk officials at around 11:00am, while they were on their way to Panchhari upazila to set up a network tower.
Acting on a tip-off, the police, army and BGB men jointly raided Latiban jungle around 5:00pm and rescued the abductees, he added. However, none was arrested during the raid.
When contacted, Press Secretary of UPDF Niron Chakma, denied having any involvement of their men in the abduction.
