Perpetrators to be tried: Matia
Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury yesterday said the perpetrators of August 21 grenade attack would be tried in order to set an example to protect lives from heinous crimes.
"Beyond any doubt, the trial of Tarique, Babar and Nizami who led the August 21 grenade attack would be held on this soil," she said, adding that the attack was orchestrated to create leadership vacuum in the country through killing of Sheikh Hasina.
"Allah saved Hasina as she had dedicated her life to the welfare of the people," said the minister, while distributing rice among vulnerable groups in Nalitabari.
Matia expressed her shock at the bad shape of roads and highways in the country, but said the people should also look at the development in electricity sector, where loadshedding has come down dramatically in last two and a half years.
She said the government would solve major national problems during the rest of its tenure.
She sought blessings from the people so that Hasina could bring tangible changes in the lives of the general people. More than 50 lakh people are getting 10kg of rice ahead of Eid from the government free of cost, she referred.
She distributed 10kg of rice to each of 5,860 poor people as well as saree and three-piece suits to meritorious students of Hossain Ali Girls' School, Middle Nolitabari Girls' School and Noljora Intaj Ali High School.
