BAU asks 12 BCL activists to show cause
Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) authorities on Saturday served showcause notices on 12 accused Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists asking them to reply within seven working days on the August 8 incident.
The show cause notices were issued three days after submission of a probe report on BCL attack on teachers, vandalising proctor's residence and office and harassing proctor and students' affairs adviser on the day.
The accused BCL activists are -- Sahabuddin Shihab, Shakil Majumder, Ahsan Kabir, Humayun Kabir, Sazzad Hossain, Amawer Parvez Ripon, Parvez Kabir, Sumon Parvez, Sumon Kumar Mohanta, Ariful Islam, Shahen Mahmud and Asaduzzaman Kokan.
Contacted, probe committee head Prof Dr Mohammad Shamsuddin of Surgery and Obstetrics department said “We submitted our report after investigating the incident properly. Now the university authorities will take steps on the basis of the report”.
Terming it a 'sensitive matter' BAU Proctor Prof Abu Hadi Nur Ali Khan, however, declined to comment on the incident.
Earlier, on 8 August, the teachers were attacked after handing over of two BCL activists to police by the proctor. The two allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a visitor at the university's botanical garden.
At least three teachers were injured by the BCL activists who also vandalised administrative building, a university bus and set two motorbikes on fire.
A 4-member probe committee, headed by Prof Dr Md Jasimuddin Khan of Animal Nutrition department was formed following the incident but it failed to start its investigation due to 'personal problem' of the head of the probe body.
Later, a second probe committee headed by Prof Dr Mohammad Shamsuddin, was formed to investigate the incident. The probe committee submitted its 173-page report on 17 August.
